I was thinking for a long while about the title. This topic is about the cultural and social difference between two neighbor state of India, BIHAR and WEST BENGAL. Obviously the people from different places have different tradition, language, opinion and many more. I could easily realize the difference because I use to spend quite a while from both the places.
As I was born and brought up in Bihar, I spent most of the time there so I am familiar with almost every good and bad thing.
In respect of living in both the places is not much different but the lifestyle and civilization both are autonomous.
As we all know, education is one of the most essential thing for each and every person. It is a necessary element of life not only to get a better job but also establish a well maintained living wage for today’s fast growing world. From very beginning people of BIHAR don’t take study as serious issue and it creates lliteracy, unemployment, poverty and lack of ideal thoughts. Yes friends, in my point of view an ideal thought means a lot. And the only way to achieve this is by a good quality education. Is it necessary if you have a good qualification or degree that means your thought is mature..?? Obviously No…! But if you have a proper education then a positive and influential thought automatically came to your mind and I think this thought can change you and your lifestyle. Yes due to lack of education various other side catalysts is also over there such as political pressure, general public awareness those I am not considering here.
Now at KOLKATA people knows the value of education very well. People know how fast the world is changing and the only way to synchronize with it a quality education. They know the need of life and through proper education they find better way to achieve those need, even they give value to education cause of that West Bengal is far ahead than Bihar.
There is one more thing still follow as tradition in Bihar, the difference between girl child and a boy. If you are a parent of a male child you may think yourself as KING of your place. Similarly if you have a daughter you’re the most wretched person in the world. And here the difference starts, they spend almost everything for their son’s study or to establish them in a good position but in case of daughter they think twice to continue give study till 10th class.
From very little age the family member start convincing and brain washing their daughter asking question like ‘What you going to do after complete higher education?? Finally you have to marry, take care of your family, prepare food for your family and give birth a dozen of children.’
I surprised when I heard the same dialog from very well educated Bihari people and most of them are older than me…!
But in kolkata this theory is totally wrong. I read it some where when I was a kid that West Bengal is a ladies first state. Here no one differentiate between boy and girl. The family maintains and grooms by combining effort and support of both husband and wife.
In kolkata people are educated but way of thoughts is not positive for everyone. To achieve the supremacy they are more deceptive. Here people feel jealous to see everyone rising or doing well. The western culture spreads by blind imitation and people follow it with elegance. Here Bengali people like to speak in bangla and listen to bangla. If they meet any non-bengali they never think to experiment new things rather than try to speak bangla. And they whisper in soft voice “Bangla Bolte paro na?? Try koro kichu dine modhyee sikhe jabe.”. (You don’t know Bengali?? Try it you can learn in few days) like that….
And the most funny thing is that even few of them consider Bengali as Indian national Language.. Even they think Bengali is the official language used every where, GOD can help them…
I heard the experience of most of the Bengali people may be gone outstation (out side West Bengal) due to some work after returning back and find the unbelievable similarity between all of them.
Most of things ok to them except three things they found wired.
First, “Sob ee thik chiloo.. Kintu kau ee BANGLA bolte pare na.”. (Means no one know Bengali except him)
Second, Sudhu aamar sathhe Partiality korchilo.. (Only do partiality with him and give favor to other. Otherwise he is the only supreme)
Third, Jai bolo khawa-r gulo aamader motto testee na.. (The food is not as tasty as ours)
No one is perfect whether it related to places, person or some other things. But we always try to make perfect. Today I feel good to see that Bihar and biharies are tried to revolutionize themselves. The thoughts are changing. The lifestyle is changing. I thought sometimes that the voyage between both places is approximate eight hours but the distance of compassion is too much. The culture, traditions and language are opposite to each other. Why the difference in life style and thinking style.
Every one knows thousands of reasons and obstacles are there but very few noble people are available and putting their tremendous effort to reduce the “Distance in thoughts”.
I try to keep myself in Second category and try to give my little effort, in which category you think you belongs to..?
See you Alohaaaa
